Broward County Dietetic Association, Inc. (BCDA)

BCDA was founded in 1963 as a nonprofit association of nutrition professionals in the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Membership consists of registered and licensed dietitians and registered dietetic technician who are all members of the national American Dietetic Association and the Florida Dietetic Association.

Mission
To promote nutrition professionals who provide individualized, science-based, high quality, ethical approaches to nutrition therapy.

Activities
Organization:
BCDA has six to eight meetings a year to provide its members with continuing education credits to foster the expansion of knowledge in a variety of nutrition-based topics. The organization contributes time and/or funds to various local charities, conducts community centered National Nutrition Month (March) activities, serves as a resource for local media questions about nutrition, and provides a speaker’s bureau and job placement service.

Membership
Definitions: A registered dietitian (RD) has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and nutrition from an accredited college or university and often has a master’s degree. Registration requires the completion of a supervised internship and passing a national exam and is maintained by meeting continuing education requirements and following the Code of Ethics. Dietitians are also licensed as Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionists (LD/N) under the Florida Department of Professional Regulation Florida State Licensing Board-Dietetics Nutrition Practice Council. A registered dietetic technician (DTR) has a minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited dietetic technician program, has passed a national exam and maintains registration by meeting continuing education requirements and following the Code of Ethics. Registration also requires the completion of a supervised internship. Registration also requires the completion of a supervised internship.

A diverse group of men and women who provide all aspects of quality nutrition and management services in a variety of practice settings ranging from businesses, hospitals, clinics, wellness centers, community feeding programs, research laboratories, schools, universities and customer care settings. Whatever the need, we have generalists as well as experts in the fields of diabetes, weight management, nephrology, HIV/AIDs, oncology, eating disorders, pediatrics, geriatrics, complementary care, sports nutrition, food service management, clinical management and customer satisfaction.
